In June I visited the Gettysburg battlefield and it had a profound effect on me as a Civil War geek. I will be posting more in the future and will consider a collection at some point.
Here the Earth bares its jagged teeth.
Piles of dark rock, raised to grind
Men to bits.
Blue and gray.
And crimson.
Lodged between the molars like strips of white sinew.
Soul-stitched.
Teased free with iron hooks.
A copper taste.
My children play among the molars.
Men forget.
The rocks remember.
